The greater omentum originates from the dorsal mesogastrium during embryonic gastric rotation. The dorsal mesogastrium is the site of development of major parts of the pancreas.
The infracolic compartment is located below the transverse mesocolon in the abdominal cavity. It contains the ascending and descending colon, as well as the small intestine. The mesentery of the small intestine divides the infracolic compartment into left and right infracolic spaces.
